Using Google Tag Manager to track Google Ad Conversions on your Quoting Portal

Smidyo Quoting Portal supports Google Tag Manager to track conversions. In this article we will go through which events are available and how to set them up.

In order to grow your sales, you may wish to use Google search ads to increase traffic to your Quoting Portal. Smidyo Quoting Portal makes it easy to correlate customer behaviour to a specific conversion on your ad campaign.

First, enable Google Tag Manager on your Quoting Portal

  1. In your Quoting Portal Dashboard, go to Settings > General
  2. Under Website Integration, set your Google Tag Manager ID, which can be found in your Google Tag Manager dashboard

Secondly, set up the Conversion in Google Ads

  1. In your Google Ads console, in the top-right corner, go to Tools > Conversions.
  2. Create a new Conversion
    1. Select the Website type
    2. Assign a relevant category, such as Purchase
    3. If it's relevant, you can set Use different values for each conversion as Smidyo can forward the value of each order or quote calculated
    4. Click Create and Continue
  3. Set up the tag
    1. Under Tag Setup, select Use Tag Manager
    2. Write down the Conversion ID and Conversion Label for use later

Thirdly, set up the Event to track in Google Tag Manager

  1. Go to your Google Tag Manager dashboard
  2. Set up the event trigger
    1. Go to Triggers, and click New
    2. Choose the Custom Event trigger type
    3. Set Event name to which of the Smidyo events you would like to track. For example "ORDER_PLACED". A list of available events is in the end is this article.
    4. Save, and set a descriptive name. For example, the name of the Smidyo event.
  3. Set up the Tags
    1. Go to Tags
    2. Add the Conversion Linker tag, and set it to trigger on all pages
    3. Add the Google Ads Conversion Tracking tag. Enter the Conversion ID and Conversion Label from earlier, and set the Trigger to the one we just created.

Available Events in your Quoting Portal

    OFFERING_INTERACTION

    This event is triggered whenever a customer first interacts with an Offering, for example, enters a text in a text input.

    Available variables:

    • offering: The slug of the Offering which is being interacted with
    • step: Which step (starting from 0) is being interacted with

    PRICE_CALCULATED

    Triggered whenever a price has been calculated.

    Available variables:

    • offering: The slug of the Offering which is being interacted with
    • price: The amount of the calculated price

    ADD_TO_QUOTE_CLICK

    Whenever the "Add to Quote" button has been clicked. For Quoting Portals where public quoting is disabled, this will be triggered by the "Request quote" button.

    Available variables:

    • offering: The slug of the Offering which is being interacted with
    • price: The amount of the calculated price

    CREATED_ACCOUNT

    Whenever a Customer has been created

    PLACE_ORDER_PAGE

    Whenever the Customer visits the Place Order page.

    Available variables:

    • price: The total amount of the quote

    ORDER_PLACED

    Whenever an order has been placed.

    Available variables:

    • price: The amount of the calculated price
